Chaos and Panic...like ya do...

So it is down to the last inning stretch, fellow Ethernet travellers.
Little more than one week until for better or for worse, I get on that plane and hit the West Coast. I won't lie, I raised much less money than I was hoping for, but more than I had expected if I'm being really honest. Most of my patrons are old friends and family, people who see me often, or want to see me in California; but some of them have been friends I've lost touch with, and that makes me really happy that even though we don't get to hear much from each other, they still care enough to want me to have this trip and see my documentary happen.

All I can say, beyond a heartfelt, tear-filled thank you, is that I will do my very best to create a film that is funny, sincere, and inspiring. And as promised, I'll be sporting my steampunk threads and sarcastic charm ;-)

Meanwhile, I've been cleaning and packing like a madwoman, because not only am I in the throws of a dilemma known as "what to pack for a month abroad when you can't take your closet", but my father's 50th birthday is approaching fast, and my flight is on the heels of the party.

And to add a last cherry on top of things, Last night a woman had a major collision with two of our parked vehicles in front of our house. Dad's car is totalled. The woman is unharmed, thank goodness. This adds all sorts of complications to the already complicated lives of the Songdogs, unfortunately. Including the "how does dad get to work" issue, and the "two gigs, one car" issue of shared vehicles. All I can say is I hope the fates have a happy and timely reason for the added stressors.

but in conclusion, life is going at the speed of light and simultaneously crawling like molasses, as it will in times of waiting and preparing, and we do our best not to get time displacement jet lag.

Dolphins and hot tubs oh, my!

Ok, my dears,
the reason for my radio silence was that my family and I have been on a vacation to Panama City, Florida!

Yes, for 6 days I walked on the pier, swam in the ocean, and took a dolphin tour (we saw baby dolphins!) and I did it all (I kid you not) slathered in SPF 100 and sporting a black lace parasol. I still burned. But I got lots of funny looks and compliments. ^^  But what I will miss the most, my dear readers, is the large hot tub I soaked in every night. ahhhh, that was niiccccceee.

It all goes to show that you can still have fun on a shoe-string budget if you know how to plan. It was the happiest I've seen my parents in a while, too, which was nice to see.

And while I was gone, one of my old college friends Cameron White donated to my gofundme, thank you thank you thank you! It's donations like that that gives me one more meal or motel night than I would have had out there. Thank you for feeding me, your humble starving artist!

and a late night addition

Just a little extra shout out to my girl Bloody Mary for her donation as well!

My third Donation

Greetings and salutations my fellow Ethernauts,
Honestly, today I am recovering from my sister's glorious 21st birthday celebration. My cake went off without much of a hitch, and good cheer was had by all.

But I wanted to thank Ruth Molenaar for contributing to my gofundme. Time is ticking away, and I am filled with both excitement and trepidation.

It's not too late to donate, just click on the link below!

Birthday

Today is my sister's 21st birthday.

It's hard to believe, because it's been looked forward to for so long, it seems odd that it has arrived. No longer will we have to sneek into pubs for live Irish music! No longer will we have to wisk her to the back for darts and pool! Never again must she miss out on kareoke night or the rave!

Tonight, my little sister bought the first alcoholic drink in a restaurant she could drink without checking for wait-staff. It brings a tear to the eye.

Love ya sis.

Epiphany and air

Today I did yard work.

Which in and of itself is not all that noteworthy. We put up the final lattice that completes the privacy fence we built around half our back yard. Trees obscure the other side. We also opened up the pool, which is very exciting, but not to hear about.

What's interesting is the view of things
of dragonfly wings
the eclectic effluvia of garden treasures which spots the garden my mother toils away in every day.
to say the garden is green is an injustice to adjectives. Her garden is a verdant force of rampant growth. vegetables climb the curled spirals of old steel bed frames. Foxglove and roses twine the fence, while wisteria slowly breaks the trellis as it takes over the garden wall. Harvest goddesses and green men peak from beneath the lemon balm, and odd bits of wrought iron and decorative stone line the fence. As twilight drifts about us, wind chimes sway in the breeze, and little globes of solar powered rainbows twinkle in the rosemary. It is a place of peace, and of plenty.

This year she has added a horseshoe of hay bales; a sustainability fad she has leaped upon. The thought is to create a self contained compost pile to grow your veggies in, without weeds and regardless of your soil quality. I think this is very funny, because what has immediately happened is that 5 different kinds of mushroom has bloomed up in them, as well as a kind of grass. Never the less, the plants are thriving.

I also held my beautiful snake Ouroboros today. I need to do it more often. He's gotten so big without me realizing. He's over 4 feet now! My beautiful baby, I remember when you were 6 inches long, hiding under my dorm room bed...

Yesterday I bought my plane tickets. It was a scary thing. A point of no return, if you will. It took every bit of the money I saved, plus a front of the money I will be getting for my next makeup gig. It also took 3 hours, despite previous hours of research, which apparently didn't count, universally. But I have them. I will be going. I will soon be on the other side of the country, in the arms of old friends and people who love me (which is a good thing, because it looks like I'll be mooching my way through this trip). I will be networking with people in the area, and carrying a camera wherever I go. I will soon be a steam punk gypsy.

It fills me with both excitement and trepidation. A grand adventure. A heart felt work of art. And hopefully, the healing of a hurting soul. For mine is a lonely tale, my dear readers, if anyone reads my ramblings. It's one of heart break and sorrow, and love and family. A tale of magic, and danger, and above all

"When you're strange, faces come out of the rain, when you're strange, no one remembers you name. When you're strange, when you're strange..."

...but they sure as hell never forget your killer outfit...

Circus of Doom

Just went to a mystery science theater-esque event hosted by Circus of Doom in Marietta Square. It played Plan 9, the last thing Bela Lugosi ever shot. It was a wonderful evening of fellow weirdos, blockheads, heckling, and free purple beer (a delicious blueberry beer called Vampira, from one of our local micro breweries).

There is no progress to report on my gofundme campaign, but I still have high hopes.

On an unrelated note, today I celebrate and lament, for I have finally joined the Borg collective, and own an android smart phone. Yes, I, your humble steampunk, have been dragged kicking and screaming into the century of the Fruit bat. Resistance is futile...there's an app for that.
